folliculitis or something else?

by ashley0033, Aug 09, 2009 01:40PM

I have recently had unprotected sex with a manother than my boyfriend.  The sexual encounter occured late at night and the morning after I had shaved my pubic region.  During our sexual encounters he likes to be on top of me and press down with force with his pubic bone onto my lower abdomen.  One day after our recent encounter I noticed one large blister and when i rubbed it, it busted. Then a few days after that i notices that there were several more like it had spread really fast. They looked like small bubbles smaller than a pencil eraser. And once tehy had popped they spread more. They were not on my vagina but the top of my abdomin (abdomen) area. I became really freaked out and thought that i had gotten an STD when my boyfriend caught it and they were located on his lower stomach because we hadn't thought anything of it and had sex. Then we  finally decided to go to the hospital and the doctor saw mine and instantly said that it was a skin folicle infection from shaving my pubic area and that he had caught it also. He gave us antibiotics and said that would help. They seem to be halping some but it has been a week and they arent completely gone. Could it be something else??

This discussion is related to Skin Boils  or hair follicle infection.

To: ashley0033,
Hello,
From the symptoms that you have described,it sounds like a friction blister or folliculitis. Pls keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics. Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove.Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment are also useful. In case the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics may be needed.Pls consult a dermatologist in that case.
Also then get the possibility of herpes blisters ruled out by getting lab investigations done.
Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional doubts.Kind regards.
