forehead scrape

by sinequanon, Aug 30, 2004 12:00AM
I'm a 47 year old white male.  Around 9 months ago I fell and got a bad scrape on my forehead (my head scraped against a carpet floor.)  It left a bad abrasion around an inch long and half an inch wide.  I kept it covered and the wound healed without a scar.  It was pink for awhile then turned white in color.  Some portions are not as light as others.  I can still detect a very slight sore feeling sometimes in the area, esp. after getting sun on it.

I'm very worried since the lighter area is quite noticeable.  I've read that patience is the best measure in these situations but it's been so long already and improvement doesn't seem to be occurring much to me.  Does this type of injury usually result in permanent hypopigmentation?  If not, how long does it take to see significant improvement?  More than another year?
Does the fact that I can still feel it indicate that healing is continuing?  Thanks.

It doesn't usually cause hypopigmentation, but if it's still lighter then you may be the exception.  It depends on how deep the original scrape was.

My advice is to wait three more months and then show a dermatologist for definitive diagnosis.  I am not sure treatment will be available, but it's worth a look and an ask.

Take care.
