fungal infection, semi responsive to antifungals

Thank you for your time. I am a 50 year old male with a persistent fungal grow that is controlled by antifungals until I grow a mustache. Then it is unresponsive to antifungals. I have tried the following, which have controlled it when I shave daily. Econozole 1% Trincinolone Acetonide .1%, Nystatin, and Tolnaftate. My last Dermatologist suggested I forgo growing a mustache. This has been a continual problem for two years. There is no possibility of cross contamination, or environment, as my Girlfriend lives in a different part of California, and I have changed  my habitat from living in a house to living on a boat several hundred miles away.

Hello,
Your symptoms are suggestive of tinea barbae. It is a fungal infection of the bearded areas of the face and neck and occurs almost exclusively in older adolescent and adult males. Topical formulations with antifungal compounds (e.g. shampoo, lotion, cream) can be applied, but tinea barbae requires oral antifungal therapy esp. Griseofulvin,Lamisil and fluconazole.

I sincerely advise you to consult a dermatologist and discuss these treatment options with him.

Hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing. Kind regards.
