groin rash

using naftin for about a week for groin and thigh rash------seems to be spreading to scrotum and surrounding areas----is this the proper medication or should i be on something else?   anything over the counter or do i have to see my dermatologist again??

Naftin is one of topical medications used to treat fungal skin infections such as jock itch.

Before applying any meditation on affected skin it is recommended to perform adequate microbiological tests (KOH preparation, and culture). Your dermatologist has probably done that already and should inform you about results.

If fungal/yeast infection is confirmed and lesions are spreading despite treatment applied, either medication prescribed is not potent enough or patient has developed allergy to that drug.

It is very important to maintain affected area clean (water and mild soap twice daily) and completely dry, and to wear comfortable underwear made of cotton.
