hi, today my mom banged her outer thigh very hard on something, and as a result there is a large black and blue bruise, but the center of the bruise is lighter colored and is hard to the touch compared to the surrounding area. anything to worry about?
This is a contusion or hematoma. As for the white center this may be an abrasion of the skin involved. Apply cold compress over the area for 15 minutes. Raise the legs to improve circulation. If pain is present, give pain relievers. Make sure no allergies to pain relievers are present. If the hematoma continues to increase in size and the white center becomes painful and swollen then you may need a physician to have this assessed.
