hard palate sore

hard palate sore

I have been getting extremely painful sores on the hard palate in the top of my mouth once or twice a year for about 20 years.  It starts with a swollen place about a half inch in diameter that feels like a blister at first.  It is not visible.  The next day I feel pressure and throbbing.  A day or two later it starts burning severely for a week or two.  There is no visible lesion.  I identified it several years ago.  My dentist confirmed my identification, but I do not remember what it is called.  It is not contagious.  The cause is not know,  There is no known treatment.  I want to know what it is called so I can keep up with research.  The latest episode started yesterday.  Today I feel pressure and throbbing.  I expect severe burning to start later today or tomorrow and last a week or two.  Then it will go away for six months to a year or two.

When you have these ulcers, get a blood test for neutrophil differential count.Cyclic neutropenia is a rare diagnois, but the commoner being apthous stomatitis, more likely the condition in your case.
