hematoma

I suffered a periorbital hematoma and a subconjunctival hemorrhage over 2 months ago in a basketball game. The scleral bleeding has healed, but the bruising and part of the swelling has yet to go away. I still feel pain around my eye (throbbing sensation every now and then). Can anyone help?

Cold compresses(Not very cold) do help a lot in reduction of symptoms.Do consult your doc.

I was advised to do warm compresses after 48 hours, but it seems like the healing process has halted.

Hello,
The blood under the skin which causes the discoloration of bruising should be totally reabsorbed by the body in three weeks or less. If the symptoms are persisting for more than 4 months, it may be due to formation of hematoma because of blood trapped in tissues. This blood may need to be drained.

I suggest you to get it evaluated from a dermatologist.

It has been three months and my eye still is black, has swelling, and pain associated with it. I was prescribed this opthalmic ointment, but it doesn't seem to be working. I have gone through the whole tube.

Hello,
Hematoma which is old needs to be drained by surgical methods from a good surgeon. This includes giving and incision and draining the blood or leaving a drain and prescribing antibiotics.
