hepes infection

I have a quick question. Can two sexual partners who are both infected with the genital herpes virus reinfect each other? In other words can someone get more than one primary infection? If so, how likely is this. If this can occur, can the dually infected person have more frequent outbreaks than if they only had one primary infection. Thanks for your response.

I have seen people, such as wrestlers, who have more than one primary lesion, but that is because they were infected in multiple places first time around.  I believe that is it quite difficult to transmit herpes of the same type to someone already infected, but I have no specific information about the magnitude of risk, if any, or the likelihood of more frequent recurrences.

Best.
