herpes dark brown tongue

by mark127, Oct 12, 2002 12:00AM
.This is the first of two posts both will be herpes dark brown tongue by Mark127. I'm pretty scared and stressed..there are somethings that are not adding up. I have been seen by 6 doctors. first one said herpes others say no, but have a positive culture. Thankyou for reading them both. I'm quite scared and confused. I had unprotected sex once with a woman I met while out state. (first time in two yrs after relationship)   . This occurred around sept 10. We had oral sex a couple days later A week later I was masturbating, felt a rawness at the base of   penis after an extended period of time. I noticed a break in the skin on the left side at the very base where the pubic hair is, it was redish.
I have done something like that in the past so I thought it was from friction. It didn't hurt except for the raw feeling when I continued and touched that area. A couple days later around the 22 sep  the area was getting bigger. It became a wet red sore that appeared to get bigger everyday up the shaft of my penis. Ended up bigger than the size of a quarter. in the red sore there was a couple seperate areas that were flat and white
a quarter inch size and irregular shape.  There was no pain
associated with it execpt it was raw  to touch and stung initally in shower. I thought it to be a bacterial infection from friction break while mastubating.   Went to  doctor, she looked   and said herpes. she didnt check for or ask about other symtoms.   nest day   went to  urologist. two of them looked     conferred   said it wasn't herpes   gave me keflex. They said "it was too big an  area". they did not do a culture.   next day the 28th I was back in the state again  . Went to emergency room clinic..doctor said it did not look like herpes. lymph glans in groin were slightly swollen, he said it would be from any infection which I had. He said I didn't have any other symptoms and "herpes hurt".   did a culture and bet it would return   negative. (this is around seven days after noticing the break and rawness). The pus seened to be diminishing after just a day of keflex.   returned the next day(three days on keflx) and doc said the redness had deminished.  told that a positive is usually returned in 72 hours(hense I have read greater than 90% of time) They keep 7 days   before   neg.   called after more than 72 hours..preliminary no positive..5 days no positive. While I was waiting the woman and I went to  a clinic and the doc told me it didn't seem like herpes. The area by now was healing but not with yellow crust,   just disappearing. She complained of burning and reddness but when examined no sign of herpes. After we had sex she said her genitals hurt even a couple days later, she had recent yeast infection. She said she had herpes simplex on lip and had for many years. The doc said unlikely I could of got it on penis he said "it has been reported" but unlikely. I called for the report expecting neg but was told positive on final result. Devastated continued

Your description matches bacterial infection, not herpes.  Your letter ends with a statement that the culture was positive at 7 days.  A positive culture for herpes simplex would of course be conclusive. If so, then you may get a minor version of herpes (a "cold sore" of the penis) from time to time.  It would also imply that the woman you had sex with has herpes as well, since the infection appears to have been recently contracted.  Perhaps she had viral shedding from the lip, where she gets cold sores.  Herpes of the penis contracted from the mouth tends, in general, to recur less often.

You should have a talk with a dermatologist about the implications and treatment of genital heroes.  They are less significant than you probably assume.

Best.
