herpes symptoms

by cj, Apr 11, 2001 12:00AM
a couple of months ago a dry patch of skin appeared on the shaft of my penis. i put lotion on it and it went away. the dryness comes back every once in awhile, but it has spread all over the shaft and is moving up to the head. occasionally it starts itching. could this be a symptom of herpes, if not what can i do to help or prevent it?

thanks
cj

No, it doesn't sound like herpes.  Herpes consist of a cluster of blisters, which lasts for a few days or a week or so, then goes away.  What you describe sounds more like irritation or eczema.  You can't prevent it (or spread it), but a little 1% hydrocortione and/or lubrication whould take care of any recurrence.

Best.
