Previous negative HSV 1 and 2 blood tests. Herpes lesions on stomach after belly piercing became infected. 6wks later positive for HSV 1 blood test. Months later genital sores appeared confirmed as HSV 1. Is it possible to have an initial infection at belly and recurrence in genital region? Is it possible for transfer the virus to a second site and not show symptoms for months?
Genital herpes may be caused by the herpes simplex viruses type 1 (HSV-1) or type 2 (HSV-2). HSV viruses can be found in and released from the sores that the viruses cause, but they also are released between outbreaks from skin that does not appear to have a sore.
HSV-1 can cause genital herpes, but it more commonly causes infections of the mouth and lips
.Herpes simplex is most easily transmitted by direct contact with a lesion or the body fluid of an infected individual. Transmission may also occur through skin-to-skin contact during periods of asymptomatic shedding. Herpes viruses cycle between periods of active disease which presents as blisters, followed by a remission period, during which the sores disappear. Genital herpes, however, is often asymptomatic, though viral shedding may still occur. After initial infection, the viruses move to sensory
, where they reside as life-long, latent viruses. Causes of recurrence are uncertain, though some potential triggers have been identified. A trigger might caused the appearance of the virus on the second site after a few months.
