Hi,
Seborrhoea , is a medical term applied to describe an accumulation on the skin of the normalNormal saline flush sebaceous secretion mixed with dirt and forming scales or a distinct incrustation. On the head, where it is commonly seen, it may interfere with the nutrition of the hair and cause partial baldness.
The widely present yeast, Malassezia furfur (formerly known as Pityrosporum ovale), is involved in the cause as well as genetic, environmental, hormonal, and immune-system factors.
If severe outbreaks go untreated for long periods of time, permanent hair loss may result due to damaged hair follicles.Expect two to six months before hair growth may resume.
Among dermatologist recommended treatments are shampoos containing coal tar, ciclopiroxolamine ketoconazole, selenium sulfide, or zinc pyrithione.

Tinea which is a fungaal infection can also cause similar patches of hair loss.Tinea capitis is a superficial fungal infection (dermatophytosis) of the scalp. It may appear as thickened, scaly, and sometimes boggy swellings, or as expanding raised red rings with central healing (ringworm). Common symptoms are severe itching of the scalp, dandruff, and bald patches where the fungus has rooted itself in the skin.
Lamisil (Terbinafine hydrochloride, by Novartis AG) is a new treatment approved for use.
