ingrown hair or herpes?

by reasuremeplease, Apr 27, 2004 12:00AM
im a male and i shave my pubic area with a razor and clippers.
i never really noticed anything before until about 2 months ago
i had this bump that appeared to look like a pimple with a white head on it around the top left side of my scrotum at the base of my penis. i now have about 7 of these bumps 2 on the right top side of scrotum 1 on my lower stomach area and 1 on each inner top thigh . any how its prolly ingrown hairs but they never seem to go away. they dont hurt itch or burn. tonight i tried to pick at 1 and it blead alittle so i stopped.these are not bunched up like a rash just spread out . i have had sex unprotected many times but spread out thru the years and the last time was last summer. i shaved tonight to see if any more come up in the next days but im curious to what these could possibly be. i dont have any on my penis. i thought about taking a picture and seeing if i could post it here which would really help in determning the problem.

These are indeed probably inflamed follicles rather than an STD.  These can come from shaving, but they can also come from nothing in particular.  There is a chance that they could be molluscum warts, which are mostly not sexually-transmitted.  I advise you to leave the lesions alone and show them to a doctor for definitive diagnosis.  Meantime, apply on OTC antibiotic like bacitracin daily.

Take care.
