ingrown hair

I noticed 4 days ago that the inside of my labia,(just outside of the vaginal opening) has a slightly hard bump. It is painful and slightly red/flesh color. I did shave prior to this appearing, and I usually shave around that area. I checked to see if it was an ingrown hair, but i didnt really see any follicle there. It hasn't changed in size or color and I'm worried that it could be something else. I had unprotected sex a week prior to finding this. I have had an ingrown hair before and know how painful it can be, but I never thought it was possible to get one that low and on the inside of the labia. Does this sound like an ingrown hair? And what can I do, or how long does it usually last?

I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be an infected hair follicle or boil. Please keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics. Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove. Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment are also useful. In case the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics may be needed. Please consult a dermatologist in that case. Also then get Bartholin’s cyst ruled out.
