starting in january 2008 i have begun to notice small bumps on my buttocks ( the lower part) and i am wondering if it could in fact be herpes. My partner does not have herpes and the only thing that could have possibly stimulated thes bumps would be that he had a cold sore a week or so before this breakout occured. can you get genital herpes from a coldsore?
This may not be herpes. This may be folliculitis or a superficial bacterial skin infection. Cold sores are usually caused by HSV type 1 while genital herpes is caused by HSV type 2. HerpeticHerpetic stomatitis infections may be autoinoculated in other parts of the body or the infection may resurface given certain triggers like stress.

Have this assessed by your primary physician. At this point, I am thinking of a bacterial infection rather than herpes.
How would you describe these bumps? Would you be able to elaborate more on this?
