itchiness at night

In the past 2-3 weeks I've developed an extreme itchiness at night.  I do have some small bumps on my mid-section, thighs and arms.  I've also developed some small blisters on my hands and wrists, which don't seem to be the same bumps that are on the rest of my body (perhaps it's unrelated?).  

I initially thought it was body lice...but I've found no evidence of it.  I then suspected bed-bugs...but again, no evidence.  

I have an appointment with a dermatologist, but it's not for another week.  This "condition" has been preventing me from sleeping through the night and has made things pretty miserable.  I've started taking some benadryl before bed, as well as Ambien to help me sleep....with someone limited success.  

Does this sound familiar to anyone?  Scabies perhaps?
