itchy bumps on knee

my 10-year old noticed that a small patch of skin on the front of one of her knees was red and itchy. She was in a pool. She scratched it. Now it is bumpy clusters and really itchy. I put some RID on it, and although it didn't grow, nor spread, it is still bumpy and itchy. It is nowhere else on her body, and I've now put cortisone (OTC) anti-itch on it. What is this? Just irritation from scratching? A bug bit? Fleas? (the house she was at had a dog) A sore? Scabies? LIke I said, it hasn't spread and looks the same now for 2 days, but it hasn't gone away.

This kind of itchy bumpy rash can be due to sweat rash,insect bite or fungal infection.Give her antihistamines like Benadryl(causes drowsiness) or Zyrtec and apply calamine lotion on the rash.Application of mild steroid cream is also helpful.If the symptoms persist then a dermatologist’s evaluation will be the best.Fungal infections have to be ruled out.
