itchy nodules under scalp

by dental 1, Jan 04, 2004 12:00AM
i am a 42 year old male with nodules under my scalp. some have been there for years. they seem to enlarge and shrink but never go away completely. sometimes they itch. i also have dandruff that i control with nizoral and other shampoos. i dont seem to have these bumps anywhere else but on my scalp.the nodules are firm and movible.i think the skin over them is red.they appear to be increasing in number.i had one 2 years ago that grew quite large was sore and the overlying hair fell out.within a matter of 3-4 months the nodule shrank and hair regrew over it.when i hit puberty my scalp ithched so bad that i would scratch it to the point of bleeding.also the nodules seem to be concentrated on the top of my head not the sides.occasionally i will get a pimple like area on my scalp with a hard point in the center but they seem to resolve. could it be clogged sebum glands, overpopulation of follicle mites, pilar cysts etc? please help!

People get cysts on the scalp, but cysts don't make hair fall out over them.  I think you are picking at your scalp in the conviction that there are bumps up there, and are making the bumps happen by picking.  (Probably also removing hair by picking too.)  Please leave your scalp alone long enough to show a doctor.  If you're 42 and have had this since before puberty, it can't possibly be anything very serious.  By this point it's probably an ingrained habit which may need behavior modification to eradicate.

Best.

It has been know that parisites can grow under neith the scalp maybe if you go to a herbalist they can suggest a parisite cleansing system that best fits you.
