itchy penis

FOr a couple of weeks now, my penis has been itchy.  Especially where the ring of skin goes around the head, and where my penis touches my balls all day long.  I have had oral sex with another guy lately, but nothing else.  I have tried Lamisil, Cortaid and others to hopefullly get it to heal and go away. What is it?  I hope it is just jock itch and not herpes!  What do you think?  I have a Dr. appt for next week, but was wondering what others thought.  Thanks for the help.

Thanks for the advice. I have noticed on my ball sac that the skin is very dry and flaky.  I shower twice a day, and dry very good.  I do have problems all winter with very dry skin and now I am wondering if this has just made its way to this area?  There are no bumps, or anything, just constant itching.  I have a call in to my Urologist to see if he thinks I should see him, or a dermatologist, or just my GP?  Thanks again.

Hi,

It could be eczema, dermatitis, allergic reactions or herpes.

You need to wash the areas several times with fresh water. Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites. Maintain good personal hygiene and wear clean, lose, comfortable clothes.

Apply calamine lotion at the site of the lesions and see if it helps. You could take some oral antihistamine medications like cetrizine or loratadine. You need to maintain a good personal hygiene .

Anti-itch drugs, often antihistamine, may reduce the itch during a flare up of eczema, and the reduced scratching in turn reduces damage and irritation to the skin.

For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone or desonide), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide).

You should also start some diet plan and exercise training to help you lose weight.

Eczema can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin. Moisturizing is one of the most important self-care treatments for sufferers of eczema. Keeping the affected area moistened can promote skin healing and relief of symptoms.

It would be advisable to consult a skin specialist for your symptoms and a proper clinical examination.

Let us know if you need any other information and post us on how you are doing.

Regards.

Jock itch does not affect the penis. If there are little blisters it's probably herpes. But it could just be irritation.
