itchy skin on leg

I often have itchy sensation on my lower leg. Sometimes I have suspicion that it's due to dry air, which humidifier does alleviate the sensation. It has worsened in the last 2 years, perhaps with age (I'm currently 36 years old) Besides humidifier, are there other remedies that you may recommend (e.g., type of moisturizer, diet, etc). Also at the detection of extreme itchiness, when immediate moisturizer does not help and it seems that scratching is the only temporary remedy at that point, what would you recommend as a quick and effective temporary relief?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello,
It can be due to dry skin or eczema. The mainstay of management is liberal use of moisturizers after washing with luke warm water. Soap should be used minimally. Moisturizers should be reapplied liberally during the day.You can also use a topical cortisone (steroid) cream or ointment like dermacort(hydrocortisone). Adding a humidifier to the central heating system of your home or using a humidifier also helps.
Also apply calamine lotion and take some antihistaminic like Benadryl or Claritin.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your doctor. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.

Unrefined organic cold pressed virgin coconut oil both eaten and used topically will cure it... read up on sites like earthclinic etc ... I got Dr Bronner's brand on Amazon for about $10. You can also get it at some grocers and all health food stores but it must be cold pressed and not from the hulls etc ... there is a major difference

Good luck!

Hello, a few years ago I had a microscopic parasite that made my legs itchy so when it happened again I went to my Doctor but he told me there were no holes so it was probably an allergic reaction, he gave me a cream that helped a little but didn't stop it.
I searched the net and someone said it might be due to something in bread so I stopped eating bread, then I stopped cakes and even schnitzel and crumbed fish, this did help but I still had it sometimes.
Finally I searched the net again and found it can be caused by lack or water, I realized I had been drinking a lot more coffee so I cut back the coffee and drank more water and it has stopped, my legs finally don't itch and I can eat bread again.
It is simple to test and it worked for me so I hope it helps you because I do understand how this can drive you crazy.
