My 1 month old daughter has this stubborn rashes that won't go away. At first her skin was red and then it looks like her skin peeled, day after it looks like it loses few layer of skin while the center being shallow and red. I went to a pediatrician and she subscribed NYSTATIN for 7 days.

It's been 3 days and her skin looks purple now, also new rashes developed. Every time I put on the cream she will cries. I'm not sure if it stings or burns, but it breaks my heart to see her suffers.

I would really appreciate some advice or suggestion, I really want her skin to heals.

Thanks you!

* I added a pic of rash that i found online looks like my daughter's

Hello,
From the symptoms intertrigo is an important possibility. It most commonly occurs due to bacterial, viral or fungal infection. An intertrigo usually appears red and raw-looking, and may also itch, ooze, and be sore.

Please keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics. Also make her wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove. Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Application of mild steroid cream cort also helps. For the itching please give some over the counter antihistaminic like benadryl or Claritin. In case the symptoms persist then antifungals may be needed. Please consult a dermatologist in that case.

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.

Thank you for you answer, she has been in NYSTATIN for over 2 weeks now. While the old rashes almost gone, new same rashes formed again and spread very quick.

Every diaper changes I always apply Nystatin and DESITIN, but I will not put Desitin no more and will do what you suggested.

Do you think I need to take her to the Dermatologist?, seems to me the infection is keeps coming back.

Hello,
Since she is still having these rashes even after applying the topical antifungals, I suggest you to get it examined from a dermatologist as it makes sense to confirm the diagnosis first rather than try new medicines. We can do a KOH examination of the skin scrapings to confirm whether it is a fungal infection. A biopsy skin can also be done.

I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
