keratosis pilaris

by Kelolo, Oct 09, 2000 12:00AM
I have had keratosis pilaris all my life, but it has always waxed and waned according to a mysterious schedule of its own.  I'm now 37 and have finally hit upon what is (for me, at least) the single most important factor in its coming and going.  I have found that when I drastically reduce the amount of dairy products I eat, the bumps are dramatically reduced within a week or two.  If I combine this with the commonly recommended moisturizing and scrubbing, I can achieve 100% relief.  As soon as I start eating dairy products again -- even while continuing with the moisturizing and scrubbing -- the bumps come right back.  Have you heard of many other people's KP having such a strong dietary connection?

Nope.  But when patients of mine notice correlations which seem to work for them, I advise them to act accordingly, even if the correlation doesn't seem to hold true for most other folks.  Your term, "mysterious schedule" is right on; with your permission, I'm going to use it for counseling purposes for the many conditions it applies nicely to.

Best.

I am a vegan and have keratosis pilaris.  It does not seem as though it is related to diet for me.  It does not seem to be a bad as it was 15 or 20 years ago, but I don't know why.
