lip split(disorder)?

i have a split that appears in and on my bottom lip.it starts as just a little lump at first under the skin then progresses to a full blown split which in turn will scab over but with it being on the lip it doesn't stay like that for long.the worst part about it is that it only happen's once a year and it increases the size of my lip by half.i've tried lip balm,blistex relief cream etc but nothing seems to work,it tends to last about 3-5 weeks at a time and can be most painful in the morning any advice on what it could be would be most helpful.many thanx daz
