The discoloration may be secondary to the inflammation. There may be postinflammatory hyperpigmentation. There may be underlying contact dermatitis or allergies involved here. Applying creams and gels may only cause further irritation. At this point, I would not advise medicated gels .Just apply generous lip balm over the lips. Use hypoallergenic products. Vitamin E based lip balm may help. Also lip balm wit sunscreen may be necessary. Wash your face with a mild cleanser only. Also, use toothpaste with low fluoride content. Avoid any lipstick for a while.
