by calciumzinc, Sep 22, 2009 02:57PM
A couple days ago i got a small red bump at the start of my pubic haird (not really close to my penis, about 2 finger spaces away) and i tried to pop it last night thinking it was a pimple but it just hurt and then today it now has a white head to it, now its based around one of my pubic hairs well 2 that grew together it looks like like my pubic hair is in the center of this pimple thing, im really scared it may be herpes but ive never had unprotected sex and have only been with 1 person! could it be a pimple? also its kind of tender to touch but doesnt hurt other wise and its only one of them

thank you

To: calciumzinc,
Hello,
From the symptoms it looks like folliculitis and infected hair follicles. It does not sound like herpes. Folliculitis is the inflammation of one or more hair follicles. The condition may occur anywhere on the skin. It starts when hair follicles are damaged by friction from clothing or blockage of the follicle. In most cases of folliculitis, the damaged follicles are then infected with the bacteria Staphylococcus (staph).

Please keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics. Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment are also useful. In case the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics may be needed. Please consult a dermatologist in that case.

I hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted in case you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
