monoclonal antibody treatment for psoarisis

monoclonal antibody treatment for psoarisis

Hi there,

I have psoarisis since 1986. It was quitee advance and I have been on topicla treatments (and Neotigason for about 8 years). My skin is so thin that a scratch develop a wound. The patches on my legs have become bigger and the scales harder on my knee. I have lately developed psoarisis behind my ears, back and left side.

I have read about the Interluken treatment but my dermatologist here told me in 2008 that she was not aware of it. What is the interluken treatment name, how successful is it? Will it work for me? And what ould the cost be involved in US dollars?

I ama bit self conscious, haven't dated in years (people thinlk you have HIV/AIDS) and have stopped Neotig two years ago. Have gone back on topical treatment - doesn't work!

Welcome to the Dermatology Expert Forum!

Targeted biologic therapeutic options for psoriasis (biologics) have efficacy comparable to metotrexate and without liver damaging side effects. However, biologics are far more expensive, carry risks of immunosuppression, infusion reaction and antibody formation. Also, long-term safety remains to be evaluated. They are mostly recommended to patients with severe psoriasis unresponsive to other treatments.

For more information, you can visit the National Psoriasis Foundation and the American Academy of Dermatology websites: http://www.psoriasis.org/netcommunity/learn/treating-psoriasis/biologics http://www.aad.org/public/publications/pamphlets/common_psoriasis.html.

It is not easy for patients with psoriasis to overcome self-consciousness. Joining a local psoriasis support group could help. Habits that could improve the quality of life include healthy diet, no alcohol, no smoking, regular physical activity, techniques for relaxation and restful sleep, working on self-respect and inner feeling of love and gratefulness.
