my boyfriend

My boyfriend was telling me about what appears to be a boil on his buttocks. He said that its not near the hole but its in the crack. He had his mom look at it and she said it was a boil. He has been exeriencing alot of discomfort and he is scared that it might be something else. I talked to my religion teacher the next day about it because she is like a mentor to me and she said that it would be best if he got it checked out because it could be herpes or even worse, cancerous. So my question to you would be what do you diagnose this to be? Do you thing he would need a biopsy? do you think it could be cancerous? Do you you think it could be herpes

Hello,
It can be a boil or a pilonidal cyst. Pilonidal cyst is cyst right over the coccyx area. In this the skin becomes reddened or even sometimes looks like a small bruise. When it is infected, it causes pain. Numerous studies have been put forward advocating one treatment over another but none has been proved better than the others. Presently, the various methods used are incision and drainage, excision and healing by secondary intention, excision and primary closure and excision with reconstructive flap techniques. This is to be followed by antibiotics. Please discuss these options with your doctor.

I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep us posted in case you have any additional doubts. Kind regards.
