mysterious hand rash

a couple of days ago, this rash started as if i had two mosquito bites on the inside of my middle and ring finger on my right hand. it has since spread to every finger on both hands - inside and outside of fingers. now - 3 days later - my fingers are all swollen, there is not much evidence of these mosquito bite looking spots, but all places where my hand is swollen or where these bumps appear are extremely itchy and uncomfortable. my fingers are swollen so much that i can't even close my hands.
i saw a dermatologist - before the fingers swelled up to the point they are at now - and there was no clear answer as to what caused this or how to treat it. in most cases these spots are not raised above the skin - although in some spots they are - and teh assumption was to treat it as herpes, while clearly not herpes, just simply because there were collections under my skin that looks the same as herpes infection does. therefore, i have been taking valtrex and using a halobetasol propionate  cream, and occassionally taking zyrtec. nothing seems to be helping. the only relilef i get is from cold air or ice packs.
i did not come into contact with anything out of the ordinary when this broke out - in fact i had been recovering from an operation over a week ago and had been at home all week with hardly any external contacts. there is nothing on my feet or in my mouth. one spot appeared on the top of my chest two days ago, has grown slightly, is red, dry skin, itches and is raised above the skin - but other than that the rash is confined to the hands.
does anyone have any idea what i am suffering from or how to cure it???!!! i have been to two doctors and two dermatologists and no one has any idea!! if you can help or provide advice i would be very appreciative. thanks.
