mysterious red bump

mysterious red bump

Dr.  I noticed a 2 and a half in. swollen area directly above my elbow today.  The area is a little warm, itches and has a few white bumps around it.  I have no clue re: origin, however I did recieve a cortisone injection 1-2 weeks ago for tennis elbow.  Could this be related?

Hi,

Are there other symptoms present? Side effects of a Cortisone injection may include: pain, infection, thinning or atrophy of the skin or discoloration of the skin where the injection is given especially in people with darker skin. Because cortisone is a naturally occurring substance, true allergic responses is rare. However, it is possible to be allergic to Betadine used to sterilize the skin. Other differentials are: irritation or allergic reaction. Swelling and being warm to touch are also associated with cellulitis.  Have this evaluated by your doctor for proper diagnosis and management. Try to avoid scratching to prevent secondary infection.

Take care and keep us posted.
