non prescription meds for psoriasis

My husband has plaque psorisis and is unable to get a prescription medication for it. Is there anything that he could use over the counter, like creams, ointments, sprays? The last prescription he had was working (methotraxate), but he is unable to get it now. so we are looking for other things he can do for his psoriasis.

However, external application of steroids are all right, but in the realm of specialist management, in its potent formulation.

Steroids(prednisolone) happen to be the most misused drug in dermatologic therapy, especially in psoriasis. While external application
is ok, internally the only indications would be psoriatic arthropathy, and exfoliative dermatits of psoriasis.
Apart from the known steroid complications with drawl is fraught with danger of severe recurrence and precipitation of exfoliation, which might result in an emergency.
Liquid paraffin is basically Vaseline in liquid form.

I understand that methotrexate has been discontinued.

There are other medications for the treatment of psoriasis and other skin disorders:

Deltasone.   This medication also comes under the names listed below.
The active ingredient in this medication is Prednisone.

Afisolone, Amacin, Antihistalone, Bioderm, Canaural,  Cortizeme, Dermipred

Your husband should speak with his doctor with regard to prescribing an alternative medication to treat his psoriasis.  You could also ask your pharmacist if you can purchase these without a prescription.  Some of these medications may be available to be purchased on line, but it is always safer to get a prescription from your doctor or buy from your pharmacist, unless you trust the web company.

Emollients are available for purchase without a prescription and there are quite a few available.  Emollients are used instead of soap.  The ones that I know of are Diprobase and Doublebase.  The pharmacist may have some other brand named ones.

Best wishes.
