not sure if folliculitis or herpes?

by NDR, Dec 02, 2003 12:00AM
Dr.
I noticed some 4 weeks ago a small pink pimple shaped form at the top of my pubic hair area. I didn't really think much of it till another two showed up more in the center of the pubic area some one or two weeks later. They were itchy at first, but did not cause any pain or other sympotms similar to some of the herpes symptoms you have described. After they were all gone, a week later another one individual pimple formed again some inch or so in the center area again. This one did seem to have a hair follicle in the center of it. The first one showed some one and a half inches from the rest of them. I have been working out alot more lately, but don't know if that contributed to it. Just wondering if herpes leaves individual bumps like that?

Thank you.

Not really.  Perhaps they're folliculitis from sweating.  If they persist or proliferate, I'd show a doctor.  Otherwise, they're best left alone.

Take care.

I wanted to clarify where I said some inch or so in the center area. The last one appeared about an inch from the other bumps is what I meant. Also, none of them resembled blisters.
Thank you.

I would like to mention that herpes is one of those stds that can be asymptomatic. In other words ... there are people out there that have herpes and don't know it because they don't get signs or symptoms. So, not everybody is going to have the "classic" symptoms or the worst case scenarios that folks are used to seeing in the most graphic pictures on the internet. For more information on herpes you can check out www.yoshi2me.com

Hope this helps,

Angela

PS The only way you are going to know for certain if you have herpes or not is to be tested specifically for herpes. Currently herpes is not included in the routine std testing process so you really have to ask for a herpes test.
