on my big left toe. I went to the doctor (GP) on 8/26/11 and he said he didn't have to lance it and it wasn't ***** even though it is red and the toe is swollen
and red and hurts. He gave me Keflex and oral lamasil. He said to soak it and use hibiclens and also to take the keflex 3 times a day and also take the oral antifungal once a day. I was told that if it gets worse to go back to him. I am to wear open toed shoes around the house and no socks and I am allowed to go outside and walk with socks and open toed shoes. I have the weekend to get through and I am worried. I am unsure of a few things and hope to get help.
1. When using the Hibiclens do I soak my foot
in plain warm water and then run the hibiclens on and rinse off as the instructions for a wound on the bottle or do I pour half the bottle in a pan and half water and soak? It will use up the bottle really fast.
2. I have only taken two keflex yesterday and two today so far and the toe is more swollen
and the infected area a bit bigger. When should I see improvement? When should I worry and go back to the doctor or ER?
3. since both the Keflex and antifungal can cause diahrrea, is it ok to take the keflex for a few days so I can see if I have any adverse reactions
to it before taking the antifungal or should take both at the same time?
4. Will only the infected toe nails fall off or will all my toe nails fall off once the antifungal is taken. How long does it take for the nail to fall off? Can I clean the nail bed (without the toenail) with hibiclens or should I still soak it?
5. I am walking barefoot around the house (the injury is on the top of the nail) instead of using flip flops because it hurts my back injury (another problem) to wear them.Is this ok? Any other suggestions?
thank you,
