penis rash

after my wife and I gave each other extended handjobs, we both developed soreness in our genital areas.  We were both sore immediately after.  But since then, mine has grown to be a lot worse.  At first, my penis would itch a lot.  Then, it became red and the skin was dry to the point where the skin under the head of my penis has even cracked in one or two places.  Above the head is extremely dry and somewhat red.  I apply Vaseline and it temporarily gets better but during sex, the sides of my penis start to hurt and burn even though I don't see much redness there.  I haven't seen any blisters of any sort, thank God.  Just redness and dry skin.  Help!

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi

This sounds like a case of irritant dermatitis. Irritant dermatitis may present with dryness and scaling and some form of itchiness. If you have used lubricants, cream or lotion during sexual activity then a dermatitic skin condition seems to be likely here.

I suggest that you abstain from any sexual activity until this has completely resolved. Wash the area with warm water and use only a mild cleanser when washing. You may apply a mild or light vitamin E cream to moisturize and smoothen the area. Do not manipulate as this may only further irritate the skin .

As difficult as this may sound and be, wait until all is completely healed before anymore sexual activity of any kind.  At least 2 weeks.  Then, if you notice any discomfort after that, stop immediately as things are not healed up.

If your condition gets worse or does not improve after stopping sexual activity, see a doctor.
