pimple or more serious in pubic area...

by bob1234386, Jul 10, 2008 11:02AM
I'm a male, about 13 days ago I had protected sex, that day, I had completely shaved my genital area prior to this encounter.  I didn't know that I was going to have intercourse at the time of the shaving...
Anyway, late last evening I noticed what appears to be a pimple above the penis, at the base of the pubic area.  I researched and found that shaving/regrowing of hair can cause this type of pimple.  I don't have any other symptoms that I'm aware of...I have never had any type of herpes or other STD symptoms prior to this mysterious pimple.
The bump has the 'classic' pimple features...small, slightly red, with a white dot in the middle.  I did wear a condom, but, the area could have been exposed, but, I also performed unprotected oral sex on her...
there are the basic facts...thanks for any help you can give me.

Hi,
This seems to be a case of folliculitis, which is the inflammation of one or more hair follicles. Folliculitis starts when hair follicles are damaged by friction from clothing, blockage of the follicle, shaving.
In most cases of folliculitis, the damaged follicles are then infected with the bacteria Staphylococcus (staph).

It presents as pimples or pustules located around a hair follicle that may crust over,
typically occuring on neck, axilla, or groin area.

Topical antiseptic treatment is adequate for most cases.  Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment can be applied on the infected area.
