hi- i have angioedema and if i catch it early benadryl stops it but this time i didn't. i had 20 mg oral prednisole tablets left over from my last episode. i took as directed - 3 tablets at once. but now i am worried about the dosage as it appears common way of prescribing that would have been 1 tablet at breakfast 1 at lunch and 1 at dinner. Am i safe? ALso i only have 3 tablets left, how should i take them. I am currently taking Levofloxacin and i want to know whether taking prednosone is safe. I also want to know if i should take Zyrtec or Benadryl at the same time, whether it would help and whether it's safe. thank you
I went today again to see the doctor .. one of my clients a pharmacists said I should ask for PREDNISONE which I did .. the Doctor agreed .. and a creram called HYDROCORTISON (thanks)
your answers are right on .. another of my clients a nurse suggested the vitamine C .. I will eat a few oranges until tomorrow .. I am hitting the shower she recommended to switch cold and hot water to drive my skin crazy .. I tell you three visits to the doctor office .. I hope this will subside by tomorrow cause I feel like ripping my skin off .. some say its stress .. I think it was an allergy to something increased by allergy to the initial antibiotics .. Pray for me cause I look, feel, and appear horrible .. my ego is bouncing :)
thanks
Hello,
Hives (medically known as urticaria) are red, itchy, raised areas of skin that appear in varying shapes and sizes. Many cases of hives are "idiopathic," meaning no cause is known. Others may be triggered by viral infections or medications. In your case it can be after an allergic reaction.
You can take antihistaminics like Zyrtec which is available over the counter or Claritin which is available on prescription. Sedating antihistamines such as Chlorphenamine(Benadryl)is used at night to get urticaria control. Short courses of oral cortisone or steroids are taken for short periods (one to three days) to settle more severe symptoms. You can also apply calamine lotion or mild steroids like Dermacort on the itchy areas.
You may take Vitamin C along with the prescribed treatment. Vitamin C is a general anti-allergy supplement. It helps stabilize mast cells so they are less likely to release histamine.
In case the symptoms persist then oral steroids may be needed.Pls consult a dermatologist in that case.
I hope that helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or if you have any additional queries.Kind regards.
