psoriasis on penis

by worried20091, Jul 29, 2008 01:39PM
On the bottom part of the shaft of my penis towards the head it seems to be a reddish dry area which the dermatologist said he thinks is psoriasis.  He gave me some desonate 0.05% gel and its not gone.  My question is could I have got this sexually transmitted and is it something I can give someone else and will it be on me for life?  Please help.

Thanks

Hi,

Psoriasis is a noncontagious, lifelong skin disease. The cause of psoriasis is related to the immune system and may be triggered by infections, injury, stress, medication, smoking and heavy consumption of alcohol. It is usually diagnosed on sight based on skin changes and the location of the condition on the body. Due to the sensitivity of genital skin, treatment requires some special considerations. It is advised to  make a follow-up appointment with your doctor after starting a new treatment, so he can evaluate your response to the treatment and make necessary changes or modifications.
