psoriasis on penis

by orthothoro, Sep 14, 2008 10:23PM
Going on my own self-diagnosis from pictures on the internet and some peoples comments also on the internet, the small pink skin patches on the left side of my penis shaft appear to be a mild form of psoriasis.  It caused no itching or other discomfort, only very slight dry skin.  The main patch - about 1cm by 0.5cm had a slight 'stretched skin' quality about it.  The other few spots were about 2mm dia.
I haven't had it before.  I first noticed it about 3 weeks ago.   Didn't have any sex or masturbation for 3 weeks after I noticed it, though I think masturbation may have been a factor in it's development, but no improvement occurred during the 3 weeks I went without, it just stayed the same.   I tried Tinactin for a few days over the past few days, thinking it might be Tinea cruris, though without itch, - no change.  I tried Aloe vera prior to Tinactin, - no change.  Then I read on the internet today a couple different guys who mentioned they used hydrocortisone cream 1% for the apparently same condition and they stated it went away in a few days, atleast for the most part.   So I got a tube of 1% hydrocortisone cream, over the counter, today, and definitely, the pink spots have already substantially subsided over the course of about 7 hours with three application during that time.  The way things are looking, it looks like it'll be gone in a few days, practically speaking.  Another note, if the penis gets a mild scrap or abrasion injury it could take up to about 3 weeks to heal based on another experience of mine.  And if you don't let it rest by not masturbating/not having major boner action/no penis sex, then it won't heal, because of all the stretching and activity.   I figured, initially, that could be the case this time(abrasion possibly, I thought), but it wasn't.

I have had recurrent bouts of psoriasis since high school, 30 years ago, though never on my genitals.  Last year I had a condition the resembled http://www.dermnet.com/thumbnailIndex.cfm?moduleID=15&moduleGroupID=468&groupIndex=0&numcols=0 number 23.  I treated it with a variety of different ointments as I did not attribute it to psoriasis.  What the photos don't portray is the dry papery feel of the skin.  Anyhow, what seemed to work best was an anti fungal (I thought it was a fungus)but I also applied neosoporin, and other ointments.  All of it went away except for a small red spot that persisted (most resembled Psoriasis_penis_4.jpg from the above webpage) .  Finally, I realized that it must be psoriasis and checked this, and other, websites and decided to try a 1% steroid cream, which did clear it up.  Best of luck.
