pubic Rrash?

by Maxwell311, Mar 16, 2009 01:42PM
Hello Doctor,
I am sure you get much of the same question but I am concerned.  about three weeks ago i noticed about 10 small bumps in my pubic region which were slightly red with a skin white top. I tried not to panic and left them. after about a week they had not changed at all (remain the same size and complexion). i began using tweezers to try and pop them. Upon doing this, out of each one i extracted a small white ball, the bump then bled quite a bit then after regularly applying isopropyl alcohol and a&d ointment to them they healed and went away. there was no subsequent pain and occasionally slight itching but nothing that was a discomfort. while the ones that i have popped have healed and gone away only to leave some red new skin, there are a few more which have remained the same and there has been no pain. i have had razor irritation in my pubic region but became concerned because these bumps were not on hair follicles, popped up at the same time, and i had not shaved recently...they were/are not pimples. where there were the bumps some hairs have begun to grow however i am guessing that they were hair follicles removed when i was popping these bumps. there have been no blisters or any discomfort and all of the bumps are the same size and have not changed, also one or two more may have risen since my initial realization. thanks in advance for any answers.

In addition, if it means anything, i was halfway through a prescription of penicillin for strep-c when this occured.

Hello,

Without examination, confirmation of a diagnosis is tough, but it can be due to folliculitis. Folliculitis is the inflammation of one or more hair follicles. The condition may occur anywhere on the skin.

Folliculitis starts when hair follicles are damaged by friction from clothing or blockage of the follicle. In most cases of folliculitis, the damaged follicles are then infected with the bacteria Staphylococcus (staph). They appear as red bumps with white top and can contain hair also.

Pls keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics. Also wear loose-fitting cotton clothing and use an antibacterial soap or mild soap like dove.Avoid any kind of cosmetics. Topical antibiotics such as mupirocin or neomycin containing ointment are also useful. In case the symptoms persist then oral antibiotics may be needed.Pls consult a dermatologist in that case.Acne vulgaris also have to be ruled out.

I hope that helps.Kind regards.
