Hi,

Shaving the groin or the pubic area may increase the risk for infections such as folliculitis and pseudofolliculitis barbae (ingrown hairs).

I would suggest that as much as possible do not shave the area. Nicks and cuts on the skin may facilitate infection of the skin and thus may lead to the above mentioned conditions which in the case of folliculitis is contagious.

It would be best to maintain good personal hygiene, refrain from shaving, avoid scratching the lesions, wash them several times daily. Apply calamine lotion several times daily to help soothe the lesions. Use a medicated sunscreen whenever you go out.

You should consult a skin specialist if the lesions are persisting after a few days.

Let us know about how you are doing and what your specialist advises.

Regards.

So i shouldnt shave there? and if i do decide to any time later on in the years, will the hairs grow bacK and what does that mean by ingrown hairs

Yes the hair will grow back. Ingrown hairs are hairs that grow in the skin and don't reach the surface.

So is that bad if someone were to get ingrown hairs

Hi,

Yes you should refrain from shaving because of the multiple associated problems including infection, folliculitis, razor burns, rashes, ingrown hair , etc.

If you still go ahead and decide to shave, the hair will grow back but there could be some irritation initially at the site.

Let us know about how you are doing and what your specialist advises.

Regards.
