"Hairy Seed Warts" gotten WAY out of hand..

This is a question for my horse, but the vet I talked to said that any human remedy would work just as well on his "hairy hoof warts".
His symptoms:
Huge, bleeding warts all OVER the skin just above his hooves that smell just like carrion. They cause him much discomfort. They look terrible, and there are so many of them. Vet said that they are caused by a virus, that got into his skin when it was possibly broken, and just spread. None of our other horses have it.
If this were a human, would you suggest podophyllin? It costs so much in Illinois, but it worked so much better than freezeing them or cutting and cauterizing them off. Can we get the materials to make podophyllin ourselves?
Help! I dont want this animal to be put down.

Crystal:
I'm flattered that you think I can help your horse, but frankly, aye'd rather say neigh (sorry) and defer to the vet you spoke with.  I suppose podophyllin might work, though it can be very painful if applied to a large area.  I'd ask the vet if I were you.
Best.
