rash and irritation

dear dr.

i have severe irritation (red rashes) on each butt cheek but only around the anus.  this causes severe irritation and discomfort when i walk because the cheeks are both irritated and rub against each other.  this happens probably once a month and it takes about 3-4 days for it to go away ( a very painful 3-4 days may i add).  do you think this is a result of a food that i am eating that is irritating my bowels and causing these rashes or is it a disorder like psoriasis? i would appreciate any professional input  -thank you

This could be an eczema, a kind of allergy.Eczema  is a form of dermatitis, or inflammation of the upper layers of the skin. The term eczema is broadly applied to a range of persistent skin conditions. These include dryness and recurring skin rashes which are characterized by one or more of these symptoms: redness, skin edema (swelling), itching and dryness, crusting, flaking etc.
Atopic eczema (atopic dermatitis) is believed to have a hereditary component, and often runs in families whose members also have hay fever and asthma. Itchy rash is particularly noticeable on face and scalp, neck, inside of elbows, behind knees, and buttocks, is the most common type.
Dermatitis is often treated by glucocorticoid (a corticosteroid steroid) ointments, creams or lotions. They do not cure eczema, but are highly effective in controlling or suppressing symptoms in most cases.
Unfortunately  skin conditions, particularly are known for their recurrence.To reduce this keep skin well moisturized as dryness tends to excerbate eczema.Anti-itch drugs, often antihistamine, may reduce the itch during a flare up of eczema, and the reduced scratching in turn reduces damage and irritation to the skin.
