rash and small bumps/blisters herpes?

by gdog34, Jan 02, 2005 12:00AM
about 7 weeks ago i had a protected exposure to the hsv2 virus.  two weeks after i went and got a IGM which was positive for hsv1 and negative for hsv2. at i think about the time of exposure until now at week 7 i have had this rash on both legs on the upper thigh lower buttocks which is in an identical spot on both sides. i also workout a lot and right where the rash is, is where i sweat the most during the workout.  the rash felt a little rough and stung only on one side not the other and didnt itch.  but i did have one puss filled bump on the other side about 4 weeks after having the rash which i think was due to me agravating it by scrubbing it in the shower.  i didnt get the rash looked at until about week 4 in a half where i was prescribed cephalexin which sort of helped a little, and at the same time i was applying aloe vera and cetaphil which seemed to help a little. but over the last seven weeks i have been extremely paranoid in having hsv2 and noticed a couple very small bumps right in between the scrotum and shaft where the pubic hair stops.  some had hair coming out and some didnt.  this was at about week 4, and ive had the small hard bumps since then.  but when i first noticed them I cut some of the surrounding hair and sqeezed a couple of them.  i couldnt tell if they were blisters or not because they were so small.  when some of them were sqeezed and a very small amount of clear liquid would come out on only a couple if i sqeezed really hard and they felt like there was something hard on the inside.  after they were sqeezed there still seemed to be a hard center.  just recently i got another IGM which came back negative as well, and this time i saw a different doctor who gave me clotrimazole and betamethasone dip. cream for my rash which seems to be working, and the doctor said it definetly wasnt herpes.  but i still think it odd i got the rash around the same time of exposure. i recently sqeezed and scraped one of those small bumps which was by itself and the same thing hapended as before but this time i scraped it away to the base where there was a very little white bump in the middle of the sore left over that was hard. i also could keep sqeezing and more water like liquid would come out.  it is healing very fast, and that is the only place where the bumps are, and may have been there before because they might be hair follicles and are sort of spread out.  i have aquired a new girlfriend since the exposure and we have been having sex reguraly with protection and some oral sex unprotected.  we have been going out for about 4 weeks and she hasnt experienced anything yet.  i would just like to know that the blood test results i recieved are reliable, and if the symptoms described above might be herpes.  i know to be sure i should go get a igg but i still have to wait about five more weeks, and i seriously need some relief now because i have been very stressed out for the last seven weeks.  i had no other symptoms than those describe

Your symptoms sound most like irritation (on the thighs) and blocked follicles that you pick at.  The fact that the groin rash came at about the same time as the exposure doesn't necessarily mean much--you also work out, etc.  I suggest not using the clotrimazole/betamethasone cream more than 2 weeks, since the steroid part of it is too strong for chronic use--a milder steroid (like 1% hydrocortisone) would be a better choice, if you still need something.

I recommend seeing a doctor in a few weeks for an evaluation, and a type-specific herpes 2 test, not because I think you have herpes 2 (I more than suspect you don't), but because I think a negative titer will help you stop worrying.

Take care.
