rash on eyelids and groin

I've had a rash around my groin for 6+ months emcompassing my scrotum, the area between my scrotum and anus, around the anus, a little on the shaft on the penis, and on the pubic bone.  It's very itchy more so at night.  I've been diagnosed with jock itch and have went through tube after tube of OTC jock itch cream to no avail.  i've also got a rash on my eyelids that is raised and flakey, not really itchy or sore. I've put hydrocortisone cream 1% on the eyelids with not much improvement.  i also had very sore and flakey ears (just inside the canal) that has since healed, just a little flakey now with no pain at all.  are these all related? and is there anything you can suggest?

I developed this same problem in high school, then when I joined the Marines it got much worse. The 4 years I was in the Marines it was diagnosed as eczema, jock itch, dermatitis, external yeast infection, etc. Some creams would remedy it for a couple days but it would always return. I actually have a small tough scar tissue area on my scrotum and my eyelids are more wrinkled than they should be.

last year I went to see an allergist for seasonal allergies that cause me chronic sinus infections. He took one look at my eyelids, asked me if i had it on my ears and genitals too. I replied yes a he said it was an intestinal yeast imbalance and the itchy flakey skin was my body's reaction to the dead yeast and waste.  He put me on a 4x a day oral nystatin dose and gave materials on yeast free diets.

I have to say i was skeptical, and 2 months of nystatin 4 times a day and a strict diet were hard to get used to, but it is gone now and i feel much better in many other ways too.

The allergist said that the yeast imbalances usually happen after a severe sickness or periods of long stress. Looking back, i remember the symptoms first occurring a month or two after i was hospitalized for 2 weeks with pneumonia.

Hi Chrisjl:

Not sure what you've got, but it sounds similar to something I've had.  Itchy, flaky, red (and puffy) skin in patches around my eyelids, on/in my ears and on my nipples and even at the corner of my mouth that, at the most severe, was very painful and would crack and bleed (did not notice anything around the groin).  I became incredibly frustrated, with my eyes looking so bad and hurting so much it was a mission just to leave the house.  I went to a doctor who prescribed a Betnesol cream.  Within a day the condition was markedly better.  However, if I discontinue daily treatment the condition reoccurs.  I still do not have a proper diagnosis (probably "eczema" ;)), but maybe this'll at least provide you with some temporary relief.  Good luck and I hope you feel better soon!

That definitely sounds like eczema. You are among at least twenty other guys on here and at other health sites. I have had this problem for eight months, others for over a year. I have tried everything, changed soap laundry detergent, foods and prescriptions from four different, so called doctors. They tell me it's an auto immune disorder with no cure. But they also claimed that the steroids would clear it up. They make it worse for me. I also thought it was jock itch. jock itch spray actually worked the best. One time it was itching bad and I sprayed lotrimin on it it made the itching go away and the redness went away. But the doctor says it's eczema.
Check out past comments on this.

There must be an epidemic of eczema. This sounds like at least ten other guys on here. When you read about eczema, they claim it only affects about 2% of the adult population and rarely if ever affects the nappy area. They should probably re evaluate their statistics.
