rash on knees herpes?

by chances1, Aug 17, 2008 09:01PM
Hi, I am convinced I acquired herpes from an open scrape on my knee.  The doctors say it is quite impossible. I had intimate contact naked with a promiscous woman and 2 days later, I had an itchy blotchy red rash on my left knee.  I did not have intercourse, but was on top of her. A week later, I had bumps on my right knee with a patch of what looked like blisters trying to start but didn;t get there.  I had a few of these bumps and clusters on my arm and but.  I think I may have autoinoculated myself many times.  The pictures on the internet match up. It didn't bother me too much.  I am convinced that I got it from this girl from skin to skin contact somehow.  Now I have accepted this total bad luck.  But, what I am concerned about is if any new outbreaks will occur on genitals or just the initial outbreak area on the knees.

Hi

Herpes may affect the genitalia as well if there is frequent and direct contact with the affected skin and the skin of the genitals. I would advise you that if herpes is suspected here, a blood tests to determine previous infection may be obtained. Although antibody testing may not really determine an acute infection, previous herpetic infections may be determined. A positive antibody test may increase the likelihood that this may be herpes as herpetic infections may recur.

With regards to your question, we can not be too sure although type 2 herpetic infection have predilection of occurring over the genitalia. Although both types (types 1 and 2 )  may affect other parts of the body as well.
