Herpes may affect the genitalia as well if there is frequent and direct contact with the affected skin and the skin of the genitals. I would advise you that if herpes is suspected here, a blood tests to determine previous infection may be obtained. Although antibody testing may not really determine an acute infection, previous herpetic infections may be determined. A positive antibody test may increase the likelihood that this may be herpes as herpetic infections may recur.
With regards to your question, we can not be too sure although type 2 herpetic infection have predilection of occurring over the genitalia. Although both types (types 1 and 2 ) may affect other parts of the body as well.
