rash on my finger

by ACTORTOM, Dec 15, 2008 10:42AM
I have a rash that started when I  started to wear my wedding ring. The ring was tight and apparently I got water under it. I finally had to take it off because I started getting this rash around the ring finger. I have used cortaid, neosporine, aveeno and it does not go away. It keeps peeling and getting red. Neosporine seems to be the only cream that does not make bumps and hurt, but how long do i do this treatment? I have had this about 3 or 4 weeks.
Thanks.

Hello,

Without examination, confirmation of a diagnosis is tough but it can be due to contact dermatitis or eczema.

Eczema is a form of chronic dermatitis (rash).Allergic reaction is one of the important causes of eczema.
Wash the areas several times with fresh water. Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites. You can apply some calamine lotion at the rash as it will help in soothing the skin. You can take some OTC oral antihistamine medications like Benadryl or Claritin and see if it helps. For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone as dermacort), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide). Eczema can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin. Use good quality moisturizers to prevent moisture loss from the skin.

If the symptoms persist then pls get it evaluated from a dermatologist.
Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted in case you have any additional doubts.
