raw skin

by ctolson, Jun 02, 2009 12:48AM
I got really sunburned on my chest three days ago and after working out today my skin was blistery and wet so i peeled off the layer of skin. There is now a large surface of raw skin that is very painful. I understand that I should keep it out of the sun for a good while, but how long? How long does it normally take for raw skin to heal? Is there anything that can speed up this process?

Hello,
Depending on the degree of involvement of the skin and the damage done to the skin, sun burns may take a day to more days to heal.

Avoid using any lotions and creams for the meantime.Use a mild cleanser with moisturizing properties like Cetaphil. Also apply aloe vera or calamine lotion on the sunburns. If the symptoms still persist then you can apply mild steroid like dermacort. For the itching antihistaminics like Benadryl or Claritin can be taken.

Hope it helps. Take care and pls do keep me posted on how you are doing or in case you have additional queries. Kind regards.
