re: red scrotal syndrome

by TS_MD, May 11, 2009 06:50AM
Comment regarding the question about the burning, red scrotum (vs. Herpes). Not Herpes, but "red scrotal syndrome" is a recognized dermatologic condition, which may be associated with other underlying medical problems. The most common is thrombocythemia, which is too many platelets (the cell fragments normally in the blood that are a major factor in normal blood clotting) in the blood. This condition should be excluded. If there is no underlying cause, cooling and elevation can relieve the symptoms. There is no specific treatment at this time. It is not contagious.

This discussion is related to Red Scrotum Syndrome or Atypical Herpes? Dr. Rockoff please..
