red irritation on penis

Hello, about 7 weeks ago I noticed an irritation on the glans of my penis. I am 40 yrs. old and married. My wife and I have had a very active sex life as of lately and I am wondering if this spot could be a result of too much friction from sex or masterbation. The area seems to vary from a red almost a burn or maybe broken blood vessels after sex or friction , to almost gone when left alone for a week or so combined with using vaseline 2x a day which seems to calm the irritation. It seems raised when the area is moist from the heat , and when left alone without vaseline it almost seems to crust over with a slight scab that will fall off exposing red new skin that if not left alone ,the whole process seems to start over again. I have included pics in an irritated state after sex and showering. A LITTLE HISTORY : About 7 years ago I was diagnosed with a penile wart through a biopsy. The report stated it was a wart , however, it also said " for hpv testing sample will be held in a solution if you want test done at an additional cost".  I DID NOT DO FURTHER TESTING. My wife of 14 yrs has never had a wart or abnormal pap. I am not sure if I ever had a wart or nor do I know if i have a cluster on my glans now. I don't think so because the irritation seems to change in redness, size, and the fact that sometimes it looks dried out and then others it looks raised and inflamed. PLEASE LET ME KNOW WHAT YOU THINK. Also please see pics. THANK YOU VERY MUCH !!

Hi,

The diagnosis can only be reached after a proper clinical examination.

You need to drink plenty of water daily – around 1.5 – 3 litres per day and eat a balanced diet. Do not keep your lips dry; apply lip balm which contains sunscreen – preferably a medicated one.

If you have cracks at the corner of your mouth it indicates B2 deficiency in this case you need to take B2 supplements. You could take oral antihistamine medications for a few days to control the itching. Put ice on the lesions to soothe them.

If the symptoms still persist, consult your skin specialist or dermatologist.

Let us know about how you are doing and if you have any other doubts.

Regards.

Hi doctor, TAHNKS FOR ALL YOUR HELP, YOU ARE PERFORMING AN INVALUABLE SERVICE. I have had another experiance. Last week my wife applied a sunless spray to to my face. I have read that not protecting lips and spraying directly on face can effect the mucus membranes namely the lips. Less than 24 hrs later my upperlip had a white raised rash sourounded by many smaller white bumps , the corners of my mouth are also white and blotchy. The bottom lip seems ok except for being chaped and cracked. I have used vaseline for 4 days not and it has not helped. It only makes the lips burn. Cool liquids seem to south the lips temporarily . Here's the catch because of my earlier problem i have been on Levequin for 3 weeks for a possible prostate infection which has gone away. Could I have injured my lips with spray tan, Could i have a yeast infection from intibiotics or could I have had warts all along that have infected my mouth. I realize this is alot. MY HEAD IS SPINNING!! any thoughts. Can all this be connected to my lesion on my penis  THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!! IT IS HARD TO SEE A DERMATOLOGIST , THE WAIT IS WEEKS. THINKING OF SEEING A REGULAR MD AT A WALK-IN

Hi,

Though nothing can be said with surety without a clinical examination - it does not look to be warts from the picture you have sent.

Glad to know that the post was of some help to you.

Do consult your doctor if the lesions persist.

Let us know if you need any other information and keep us posted.

Regards.

Thank you for your response. Do you see any reason to consider warts based on the pics I have included or the reaction I had at the site to the vinegar solution I used. THANKS

Hi,

It could be eczema, sweat dermatitis, allergic reactions or eczema.

You need to wash the areas several times with fresh water. Do not use any cosmetic products at the sites.

Apply calamine lotion at the site of the lesions and see if it helps. You could take some oral antihistamine medications like cetrizine or loratadine. You need to maintain a good personal hygiene .

Anti-itch drugs, often antihistamine, may reduce the itch during a flare up of eczema, and the reduced scratching in turn reduces damage and irritation to the skin.

For mild-moderate eczema a weak steroid may be used (e.g. hydrocortisone or desonide), whilst more severe cases require a higher-potency steroid (e.g. clobetasol propionate, fluocinonide).

Eczema can be exacerbated by dryness of the skin. Moisturizing is one of the most important self-care treatments for sufferers of eczema. Keeping the affected area moistened can promote skin healing and relief of symptoms.

It would be advisable to consult a skin specialist for your symptoms and a proper clinical examination.

Let us know if you need any other information and post us on how you are doing.

Regards.

This morning I soaked a gauze pad with white vinegar and placed on the irritation on my glans. I left it on for 5 minutes. It did not burn or hurt at all. After removing the gauze pad the area reveled raised white areas clustered together. It was no longer a flat smooth irritation. As I showered afterwards the area seemed to calm down as water ran on it and the raised whiteness seemed to disappear slowly. After the shower and the area dried off it returned to a red irritation flat without any kind of raised bumps or clustering. One red irritated area that will calm down with vaseline. It will fade, shrink and dry over if left alone. Does the fact that it turned white and clustery point to warts or can that happen in other cases. It is puzzling that my wife of 15 years has tested negative on more that 1 occasion for HPV , never had any visual signs of warts, in fact her gino. has said that things look very healthy in her case. We do not use protection and never had. THANK YOU......... NEED AN OPINION !!!!!
