red patch on nose

red patch on nose

My daughter is 12 years old.  When she was small, she had a large white bump on her nose, like a white head deep under the skin.  It was there for a few years & didn't have a defined "head" on it.  Finally, at about age 10, it seemed to have more of a defined head on it so I squeezed it and a large amount of white stuff came out of it.  I did squeeze it hard and several times to get it out.  It was big and left quite a sore for a while. In fact, we would think it was healed then along came another red patch, but never any more white heads under the skin. This happened for about a month before it actually healed.
Since then, occasionally she will get a bright red patch on her nose that turns into a big scab.  You can see the red patch "coming" and getting brighter for a couple of days, then it gets bumpy and scabs over.  We don't see any white heads or black heads in the patch, and we don't mess with it at all, except she puts some make up on it to try to cover it up when going out.  This patch is always on her nose & not really in the same spot as the bump that she had when she was small.  Actually, it is always on the front of her nose.  I do remember that she always had white bumps there in the crease of her nose when she was smaller and I would squeeze them and get quite a bit of white stuff out, but it never left a scab or red place.  She hasn't had these bumps in the crease of her nose, though, since she was probably age 10.  She did have them there when she was pretty young and way before she ever had "zits" on the rest of her face.
Please help!  What should we do?  This is getting to be quite a problem and she's tired of it!  One friend even made fun of her nose.

Hello,
The bump which you had drained was a sebaceous cyst. Regarding this red patch on the nose, I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be fibrous papule of the nose, trichoepithioloma or actinic keratosis. Since it has been present for a long time without any change, so these possibilities need to be evaluated for which I suggest you to consult a dermatologist.

It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist. I sincerely hope that helps. Take care and please do keep me posted on how you are doing.
