damage on my fair skin, which looks reddish at times, not a mole. I can't believe I ignored it, but it just did not look scary to me since it wasn't dark or bleeding.
I have (new) sunspots and have had skin tags, which also brought me to the dermatologist (way too young) a few days ago and also to check the red spot. She froze two spots on my chest, not too big a deal. She seemed alarmed at the red spot and did a shave biopsy. When I asked why she didn't do a punch biopsy or excision, she said that it was a bit scaly but not a dark color. I thought that if a spot seemed dangerous, a doctor would just take it out right away and not do a shave.
I have since read that it is unwise to do a shave biopsy on suspected melanoma because of the depth or stage. I called the next day to ask that, and she said they could find cancer cells with a shave only, and she is not overly concerned, but she sounded concerned. She is also very young. Anyway, the biopsy seems to be healing, am following instructions - it went from pinkish red, now back to all red like it looked before the shave. Is that bad?? I know lower leg is not a good spot, either. Anyone have a comment? I have to wait a week and am going away to a wedding next Thursday, and don't want to be a damper. Thank you!!
